How to Use Klaviyo Coupons in Your Online Store
In this post, we talk about why we LOVE Klaviyo coupons. If you’re an online store owner who uses Klaviyo for email marketing then keep reading!
As you know, Klaviyo is a powerful email marketing platform. You can integrate it with your Shopify store in one-click. Perfect for a newbie store owner as well as for an established store owner with a full-fledged marketing department. You don’t have to be an expert to start using Klaviyo. But you should hire experts later on when you need to do more to double your revenues.
We don’t have to tell you why Klaviyo is a no brainer for Shopify store owners. We’re here to tell you why we love their Coupons feature!
Top 6 Reasons Why We Love Klaviyo Coupons
Let’s dive into each one of those points.
#1 – Dynamic vs Static Coupon Codes
Guess what? You can only create Dynamic Coupon codes in Klaviyo.
Dynamic coupon codes are personalised and generated based on customer attributes or conditions, while static coupon codes offer a consistent discount to all customers. The choice between dynamic and static coupon codes depends on the marketing goals, target audience, and desired level of personalization in promotional campaigns.
When to use each of these coupon codes?
- Use DYNAMIC coupon codes in your Welcome flow. The dynamic coupon code is a mix of letters and numbers that appears unique to the subscriber. An example of a dynamic code: MXY45Z. In fact, they are unique to each subscriber! This will prevent any coupon abuse if any. Because they are unique to each subscriber, dynamic coupon codes convert better, thus more sales.
- Use STATIC coupon codes for broad promotions, storewide sales, or specific marketing initiatives like seasonal discounts or special events. An example of a static coupon code would be: “Use SPRING20 to get 20% off our spring collection”. They provide a consistent discount that is not dependent on individual customer attributes, making them suitable for targeting a wide audience with a standard discount offer.
- Unfortunately, Klaviyo only creates dynamic codes so if you want to use the static code in your marketing then you’ll need to create them on your Shopify platform or any eCommerce platform you’re using.
#2 – Specific codes to products/collections or Total $ Spend
As you start setting up your coupon code in Klaviyo, you’ll quickly notice how easy it is to set them up! Having said this, one of the reasons we love Klaivyo coupon codes is that you don’t have to sign up to third-party tools such as JustUno to create clever coupons. In Klaviyo, you can easily create a coupon that is applicable to how much someone spends on your store. For example, ‘Spend $50 to get 10% off – use code xyz.’
TIP: When you use this type of condition you’re more likely to increase your Average Order Value (AOV) thus making your store more profitable.
#3 – Syncs with your Shopify coupons (automatically)
Any code you create inside Klaviyo will automatically become visible in your Shopify store. There’s no double handling or additional admin work you’d have to do to transfer the code onto Shopify to make it work!
#4 – Set coupon expiry dates
We absolutely love this feature of Klaviyo coupons!
You can make your coupon codes valid from the time a contact enters a flow. Let’s use ‘Welcome Flow’ as an example. The coupon codes get delivered to the subscriber instantly but for some reason they don’t open their email for days. What you can do is adjust the flow so that you send out a reminder for people to use the code. Set the reminder two days out from the coupon expiry date/time. We find that this additional step improves your sales drastically!
#5 – Auto-apply coupon codes at checkout
How to apply your coupon code automatically on checkout on button click?
This part is not that straight-forward. You’ll have to remember to use a specific code:
https://yoursite.com/discount/{% coupon_code ‘CouponName’ %}
Replace the placeholder text with your store domain name and replace the CouponName with the name of the coupon you’ve created. Then apply the newly created URL onto your CTA buttons, Images or to hyperlink a text.
#6 – Display it on your Pop up forms
Klaviyo makes it super easy to display your codes on sign up forms. Remember to use this option for special promos or just to a specific segment of customers. For example, your VIP customers who don’t need to opt-in to view the discount code.
