On a flight back from New Zealand, I watched the documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin. At first, it felt like a simple music documentary. However, it quickly turned into a lesson about AI in business strategy.
The film tells the story of how four musicians — Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham — came together in 1968 to form Led Zeppelin.
Yet the most interesting part of the story happens before the fame.
Before the hit songs.
Before the sold-out concerts.
For years, these musicians worked quietly as session players. In other words, they helped other artists record music. During that time, they learned the technical side of the studio and the business behind the industry.
Because of that experience, they were ready when the opportunity came.
Surprisingly, the same idea applies to AI today.
The Jimmy Page Difference in AI in Business Strategy
Every band has talented musicians.
However, legendary bands usually have someone who connects everything together.
For Led Zeppelin, that person was Jimmy Page.
Before forming the band, Page spent years working as a studio musician. As a result, he understood how recordings were made and how instruments worked together.
More importantly, he understood the business side of music.
For example, he knew how to work with record labels. He understood branding and audience appeal. In fact, he negotiated deals that gave the band creative control, which was rare at the time.
These abilities are what I like to call “Jimmy Page skills.”
They include:
Strategic thinking
Coordinating people and tools
Negotiation and relationship building
Long-term vision
Technology can help with many tasks. Nevertheless, these human abilities remain difficult for AI to replace.
The Real Lesson About AI in Business Strategy
Many people think AI will replace human work.
However, the reality looks different.
Instead, AI is becoming something like a session musician.
Back in the 1960s, Jimmy Page played guitar on records for artists such as Shirley Bassey and The Kinks. In those cases, he helped other musicians bring their ideas to life.
Today, AI plays a similar role for businesses.
For instance, AI can:
draft marketing copy
analyze data quickly
summarize reports
generate ideas
automate repetitive work
Therefore, AI now handles much of the technical effort.
Still, someone has to guide the process.
Founders Still Need to Conduct
Jimmy Page’s talent was not only about playing guitar.
Rather, it was about arrangement.
He understood how the drums, guitar, and vocals should work together. Because of that, the band created a powerful and unique sound.
AI tools work in a similar way.
They can produce large amounts of output. However, without direction, that output may not be useful.
Someone still needs to decide:
what the goal is
which tools to use
how everything connects
This is where AI in business strategy becomes valuable. AI handles the mechanics, while humans guide the direction.
The Business Side Still Matters
AI can write a contract.
However, it cannot truly negotiate one.
For example, it cannot sense emotions in a meeting or understand trust between partners. It also cannot build long-term relationships with customers.
Jimmy Page knew how to build something bigger than a single album.
Instead, he helped build a brand that lasted decades.
That kind of thinking requires human judgment, experience, and intuition.
Therefore, these skills become even more important in the age of AI.
Speed Has Changed the Game
One interesting detail from the documentary is that Led Zeppelin recorded their first album in about 36 hours.
That speed seems almost impossible.
However, the musicians could move that quickly because they had already spent years learning their craft.
Today, AI creates a similar shift in business.
For example, companies can now build:
marketing automation systems
AI-supported sales pipelines
customer support tools
data-driven campaigns
As a result, projects that once took months can sometimes be completed in days.
Still, speed alone does not create success.
Instead, companies with a clear AI in business strategy will gain the biggest advantage.
The Human X-Factor
Many bands tried to copy the Led Zeppelin sound.
However, most failed.
Why?
Because music is more than technique.
It includes instinct, chemistry, and real human experience.
AI can generate content quickly. Nevertheless, it cannot truly understand your customers or your market.
That intuition still belongs to people.
How AI in Business Strategy Actually Works
At Bumper Leads, we help businesses automate parts of their marketing and lead generation using AI.
However, the technology works best when humans guide the decisions.
AI is not the leader.
Instead, it is the amplifier.
If you want to learn how automation systems work in practice, you can explore our AI automation framework and see how businesses are building scalable lead systems.
Technology supports the process, but strategy leads it.
The Question Every Founder Should Ask
The story of Led Zeppelin raises an interesting question for today’s business leaders.
Are you acting like a session musician in your own company?
Or are you acting like the conductor?
AI gives businesses powerful tools. However, the real opportunity is not doing more tasks.
Instead, it is removing the busy work so leaders can focus on strategy, relationships, and creative ideas.
AI will not replace the Jimmy Pages of the world.
Rather, it will simply give them a much louder amplifier.
