This not for profit client had launched a movie that was so successful, they needed a quick scalable solution to grow. Their database increased 1,000% due to this launch but their email open rates were decreasing. Their database was 1,000,000 contacts and they needed a way to segment and communicate with them appropriately.
The client already had an email marketing platform which was serving two businesses – the movie and their main website; but most of the database subscribers weren’t segmented and so messages were mixed and not personalised.
Their email open rates were hovering around 11-15%. On a 1 million subscriber list, that meant they were only reaching 150,000 of their subscribers at best. We knew we could boost this number and help them reach more people.
The Bumper Blueprint helped the client gain clarity on the opportunities they were missing out on. We factored in future strategic objectives such as a planned new movie launch and licensing agreements, and strategised more opportunities to introduce more automations that were personalised based on subscribers’ interests.
We introduced more consistent ways to send emails, changed the design of the newsletters so they can be legible on all devices, and trained their team on how to use their new marketing system.
The immediate change was clear as their open rates increased from 11-15% to a solid range of 35-45%. We also had great success working with the client’s advertising agency team to help them grow their database with retargeting.

One of Australia’s leading retailers of second-hand clothes and household goods had to shut its stores during the pandemic. If they were to stay alive, they needed to pivot to an online model – fast.
Fairly new to the ecom world and with a new custom built website, they needed to find a great marketing automation solution to help them scale their brand beyond their brick-and-mortar storefronts.
The company’s large marketing department needed some guidance on how to navigate the world of marketing automation. Our Bumper Blueprint helped clarify how to separate retail buyers from donors or volunteers; and most importantly how to nurture each group so that their brand stays front of mind.
We integrated their new marketing automation system to work with their highly customized website, which then fed into complex enterprise level POS systems. We developed a robust email marketing system, with weekly specials on each day of the week representing a unique offering, driven by the ‘one-off’ nature of their goods.
Now different segments such as donors and volunteers have a nurturing funnel which wasn’t something that they imagined initially could work. Also, newsletters that previously had to be updated manually are now automated so that each weekly special now runs as a part of the sales process rather than a weekly manual campaign.
